SEVENTEEN is known for having a fun and nearly flawless discography. As they have tackled genres of all kinds, you cannot help but notice their music’s high level of effort and production. Not only are their songs great, but they actually have a lot more hands-on in the creative process than we may think. Especially Woozi. Woozi has produced numerous songs for SEVENTEEN, and some of them are fan favorites! Let’s look at some of the songs that Woozi had a big hand in.
Adore U
Their debut track, “Adore U” was released in 2015 from their debut album ‘17 Carat’. The track was written, composed, and arranged by Woozi. He checked all the boxes and it is very impressive that he was able to do this for the debut of SEVENTEEN. It is a fun pop song about a boy navigating puppy love and admiration for someone. The song peaked at number 13 on the Billboard U.S. Word Chart and has become a nostalgic song to remember for many CARATS.
Very Nice
One of SEVENTEEN’s most iconic songs is “Very Nice” (also known as “Aju Nice” by fans). Released in July of 2016, it was the perfect song for the summer. The song was also written, composed, and arranged by Woozi. The song depicts feelings of nervousness when they want to go on a date with a girl. The funky upbeat song is their second most streamed song on Spotify and became on of their most anticipated songs on tour. Many looked forward to seeing the mic handed off to a fan by members so they could sing the high note. Additionally, the song would be performed at the end, but they would come back on stage and perform it over and over, coining what is called “the never-ending aju nice.”
Light a flame
Also written, composed, and arranged by Woozi, “Light a Flame” is a song by Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, and Woozi of SEVENTEEN. Although it is a unit track, that doesn’t make it any less of a masterpiece. The sultry-sounding song is followed by very fluid choreography and makes for the perfect chill track.
Yawn
From their recent album ‘SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,’ “Yawn” is the sixth track. The song was written entirely by Woozi. Additionally, it was composed and arranged by him. It was described by members as “Woozi’s signature.” The track is a ballad with very poetic lyrics. Woozi sent the track to a fellow member, Seungkwan who was on break. It is said that it made him and other members very emotional, making it a song that tugs at your heartstrings. It is beautifully written and the vocal line delivered this song in the most delicate way possible.
Cheers
Consisting of SEVENTEEN’s three leaders, “Cheers” is one of those songs that you’d wanna play at a party. With Hoshi as the leader of the performance unit, Woozi as the vocal unit’s leader, and S.Coups as the hip-hop leader, this track has it all. Written and composed by Woozi, “Cheers” will make you want to raise your glass and have a good time.
Woozi has produced a number of songs for SEVENTEEN and also won “Best Producer” at the 2021 Asia Artist Awards. However, his production skills are not limited to just his group. He has produced for other artists such as fromis_9, I.O.I, and his fellow bandmates The8 and Hoshi. His hard work does not go unnoticed!
