K-pop group The KingDom is making waves in the U.S. with their second world tour, “UNVEIL.” On September 11th, the group performed in Chicago’s Athenaeum Theater for the first time, captivating Midwest KINGMAKERs with their charisma and boundless energy.
Earlier this year, the group’s company announced they would shift in creative direction, rebranding from “Kingdom” to “The KingDom” and evolving their music style to align with one closer to a traditional boy group. This marked their first tour since these significant changes, generating excitement among fans eager to see them again.
The concert started with an intro VCR featuring scenes from their music video for “New Story.” The suave and mature style of this VCR introduced the group’s newer songs, which showcased different genres, like “Flip That Coin” and “Energy.”
Between the stages of their newer songs and the throwback performances to songs like their debut song, “The Excalibur,” and an emotional instrumental of “Black Crown,” the group paused to interact with their fans, taking turns teasing each other and giving fans insight into their thoughts while coming on tour to the U.S. for the second time.
Special stages were performed throughout the concert, like solos, unit performances between the members, and covers of internationally known popular songs. Most notable were the group’s renditions of NCT U’s “Baby Don’t Stop” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”
Other songs the group performed served as the perfect interactive stage. During The KingDom’s performance of “X-Game,” the members stood in a row across the stage, making eye contact with the crowd while directly singing to them. The KingDom’s concert ended with the members going into the crowd and giving fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to form intimate and lasting memories with them before they left Chicago.
The KingDom left a lasting impression on their Chicago audience, reinforcing their connection to international KINGMAKERs and teasing the possibility of another upcoming tour. We know we can’t wait to see the group when they return!
