The five-piece girl group (G)-IDLE made their comeback this past Monday, May 15th, with their sixth mini-album ‘I feel.’The album also includes the lead single “Queencard.” Complete with Y2K visuals reminiscent of our favorite chick flicks, (G)-IDLE tells their listeners to embrace their true selves.
This extended play directly follows the group’s previous release, ‘I Love,’ which featured the lead single “Nxde.” The album stays true to the group’s message of loving yourself and having self-confidence—this time through the lens of iconic 2000s American teen movies.
“Queencard” stays true to this angle while also keeping the group’s rock sound from the previous release “TOMBOY.” The song’s title refers to the card game, but it is also a slang term for the most popular girl in high school or it girl. According to leader/songwriter and composer Soyeon, the lyrics are not meant to be taken seriously, and “like a comedy movie, [she] hope[s] people will watch it lightly and say ‘it’s funny’, but in the end, [she] hope[s] it leaves a lasting impression.” (Source)
The music video is just as she said: a fun, humorous time with plenty of references to the movies Mean Girls and White Chicks. From flip-phones to dance-offs to baby pink everything, anyone who grew up watching teen films would enjoy this music video.
