Enhypen took a bite out of 2020 and left a mark with their debut song, ” Given-Taken.” As vampires, Enhypen came onto the scene with a storyline based around their vampiric personas. It’s been a while since Enhypen astonished us with their hauntingly fascinating vampire concept but with their 4th mini album, ‘Dark Blood,’ the vampires are back and more mesmerizing than ever.
Enhypen tapped into their strengths within the title track, “Bite Me.” “Bite Me” is the child of Pop and R&B while still incorporating Hip-Hop elements to add grit, backing up the melodic voices of the group. The pre-chorus includes a compelling and eerie chant that perfectly aligns with their vampire concept. “Bite Me” is a song about the intense bond between two people. In the music video, we see Enhypen dancing in pairs with women backup dancers. This new style of choreography beautifully compliments the passionate romance the group wants to portray through the song.
‘Dark Blood’ has a distinct sound as you travel throughout the album. Enhypen strays away from their brighter sound and returns to the darker sound they began their careers with. The mid-tempo tracks “Chaconne” and “Bills” combine classic trap, Hip-Hop sounds to create a fusion of sounds that fit Ehypen’s voices and style. To juxtapose the earlier tracks laced with pieces of R&B and Hip-Hop, “Karma” and “Sacrifice (Eat Me Up)” takes from the Pop-Rock genre, reminding us of our favorite bands from the early 2000s. The electric guitar and synths carry the instrumentals a long way as it enhances the character and depth of the songs.
Enhypen’s latest release, ‘Dark Blood,’ showcases their continuous growth as artists and marks a significant turning point in their career. As a 3-year-old group, this is not their final form, and things will only go up from here for the group as their sound continues to develop with them.
