Since their debut in 2019, TXT has had eight Korean comebacks in the form of three full-length albums and five mini-albums. Each album has its fair share of memorable B-sides to accompany its title track. All of which helps to encapsulate that respective album’s concept and message. From ‘The Dream Chapter: Star’ to ‘The Name Chapter: Temptation’, here are our favorite B-sides to stream.
The Dream Chapter: Star – “Blue Orangeade”
Starting with their debut album, ‘The Dream Chapter: Star’. This first track off the album “Blue Orangeade” is a fun and catchy song about a love that captures the famous saying “opposites attract”. It references how colors blue and orange despite being located on opposite sides of the color wheel can be complimentary to one another. This earworm is sure to get everyone on their feet and celebrate how opposites attract.
The Dream Chapter: Magic – “Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?”
“Can’t We Just Leave the Monster Alive?”, is the ultimate comfort song to heal your inner child. TXT uses inspiration from fantasy RPG video games. The members view killing the proverbial final boss as the last stage of childhood, before growing up into adulthood. When hearing the song, listeners are reassured that although change is scary, “it’ll be alright, alright, alright”.
The Dream Chapter: Eternity – “Maze in the Mirror”
There are many memorable B-sides from ‘The Dream Chapter: Eternity’, such as the jazzy “Fairy of Shampoo”. However, “Maze in the Mirror” is a potent track that is very special to all the members as they all contributed lyrics to this B-side. The song alludes to the feeling of looking in the mirror and not recognizing yourself. It was written during TXT’s trainee days. This B-side is an acoustic Brit-pop style that explores themes of self-discovery and feeling lost within yourself which adds an explosion of emotions at the end.
minisode: Blue Hour – “Ghosting”
There is nothing more upsetting than being ghosted by somebody you care about, we’ve all been there. TXT perfectly captures that feeling in “Ghosting”, turning it into a dream pop alternative rock song. While you wait for those fateful “typing” bubbles to pop up or not listen to “Ghosting”.
The Chaos Chapter: Freeze: “Dear Sputnik”
“Dear Sputnik”, written by the youngest member of TXT Hueningkai. This is another alternative rock and pop-punk fan favorite that features themes of outer space. The lyrics to “Dear Sputnik” weave a story of finding companionship in the midst of loneliness. Fun fact, “sputnik” was the first satellite to be put into orbit around Earth as well as meaning “companion” in Russian. Following these motifs, the members sing about embarking on an eternal journey with their sputnik, forever caught in each other’s orbits as they travel the universe together.
The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape: “MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)”
‘The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape’ may be a repackage of its predecessor ‘The Chaos Chapter: Freeze’, but how could we not include TXT’s first official fan song “MOA Diary” (also known as “Dubaddi Wari Wari”). Dedicated to their Moments Of Always-ness, “MOA Diary” is a cute and upbeat track in which the members express their feelings for their fans and reminisce on the relationship between MOA and TXT. Furthermore, they make a mutual promise with MOA to stay together and be there for each through hard times forever.
minisode 2: Thursday’s Child: “Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go”
Sometimes after a breakup, we need some kind of hope in moments where we might feel as if nothing is okay. There is no better song to find that hope other than the synth-pop track “Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go”, sung by Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Soobin. The song takes its title from a line in the nursery rhyme Monday’s Child, which states, of course, that “Thursday’s child has far to go”. The phrase can be interpreted in different ways; first, that Thursday’s child has a long way to go towards their goal. Second, that Thursday’s child has a lot of potential. That being said, the narrator of the song “Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go” signals a new beginning after a breakup on Thursday, looking forward to the days beyond.
The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION: “Tinnitus”
Who doesn’t doesn’t feel like a rock sometimes? Utilizing sensual vocals and a reggae style influence “Tinnitus” has a sensual and sexy sounding beat. TXT croon that they want to be a Rockstar, but instead realize they are merely a “Rockstar minus the star”. Expressing the lifestyle they live as attend parties like a Rockstar, but at the end of the day are left with a perpetually empty and lonely silence inside that deafens them, like tinnitus.
