My Demon tells the love story of Do Dohee (Kim Youjung), a rich woman who is a constant target of assassination, and Jeong Guwon (Song Kang), a 200-year-old demon who has to make a deal with humans to prevent them from burning away. When Guwon’s power source was transferred to Dohee, the latter found protection from the Demon. From there begins an unexpected romance between a human and a demon. As the drama recently ended, let’s review what the show had given us.
A Romanticized Version of “Demon”
The majority of Guwon’s dispositions were presented as goofy, clumsy, and romantic. Hence, he rarely gives a toxic vibe (even when he has his power) that a demon is typically known for. Even Guwon himself admits that his job is being taken by his wife’s antagonist, Seokmin (Kim Taehoon,) since the latter committed countless unimaginable sins than the Demon himself.
A Trauma Proof Female Lead
Despite Dohee’s multiple death experiences, she never showed signs of trust issues when going out alone nor put pressure on herself, Guwon, and the detectives to find the culprit. Instead, it’s Guwon who tends to be the one to encourage Dohee to solve the clues they found. Yet, Dohee’s tendency to live in the present moment bewitches Guwon to relax.
That’s why the investigation-themed in this drama is pretty much ornamental – favoring viewers who don’t like to watch serious stuff for too long but restrain those who want to figure out the culprit. Given that futile conversations, senseless jokes, and lovey-dovey scenes have more spotlight. Why not? It’s a romance drama after all. But looking at the big picture, mundane scenes are a smart move of the creators to distract the viewers from figuring out the real culprit.
The second to the last episode of the drama will make us understand why Dohee becomes trauma-proof.

The place, the ambiance, and the setback that Peter was in when he was found by Jesus were similar to Bok-gyu’s (Heo Jeong-do) experience when he met Guwon. Another one is when the couple walks out of the burning store; the scene matches Daniel’s peers walking out of the fire alive.
Some Inspiration On How to Handle Setbacks Gracefully
Letting your achievements introduce you, choosing your battles, refusing to blame oneself and others, and fighting negative emotions by doing productive things are all the strategies that Dohee uses whenever people are trying to bring her down, including the demon himself.
Bromance, Second Lead Couple, and Unrequited Love
Guwon and Bok-gyu’s treatment toward each other is quite similar to Guwon (Lee Junho) and Sangsik (Ahn Seha) of King the Land. The only difference is that the present Guwon, our demon, is more open to his assistant.
Speaking of assistants, Bokgyu has a humorous and exaggerated relationship with Dohee’s secretary, Ms. Shin (Seo Jeongyeon.) While Jin (Jo Hyejoo) and Seokhun (Lee Sangyi) represent the black-and-white sides of unrequited love. Still, both have shown unimaginable resiliency and perseverance that might inspire some of us.
Extended Laugh With Dohee’s staff and the Wild Dogs
While you may chuckle with the occasional banter of the main and supporting leads, Dohee’s staff and Wild Dogs will give you a real, good, and heavy laugh. So, you should not skip their scenes.
The Epitome of Honeymoon Stage in Relationship
Dates, kisses, hugs, surprises and seduces; holding hands, empty promises, white lies, corny jokes, cheesy lines, and cheesy looks; constant protection, separation anxiety, jaw drop, piggyback, soft-spoken and being inseparable were splattered around the episodes. So prepare your punching pillow or whatever is the safest thing you can hit while watching the lovey-dovey scenes of Dohee and Guwon.
The Typical Setback Of Fantasy Drama: A Partner Must Die To End The Other’s Suffering
This setback is not new to us; we have seen it in countless fantasy dramas such as Goblin and Destined With You. Yet the way it was informed to Guwon by the God herself – Cha Chunghwa, was pretty insightful, philosophical, and mystical. Still, Chunghwa’s teachings might strike a chord with some of us, as we have different beliefs about God. Nonetheless, Chunghwa’s suave acting style perfectly gave us an invincible aura.
A Twist That Is Quite Similar to Youjung’s Previous Dramas
Such as Love in the Moonlight and Clean With Your Passion where the family of Youjung’s love interest made an offense to Youjung’s family. However, Dohee’s reaction to Guwon’s offense is very different from Raon and Ohsol’s reaction.
A Romeo and Juliet Scene During the Couple’s Near-Death Experience
All scenes elicit sorrow and rage feeling. But Song Kang’s acting in the last one was truly heartbreaking.
It’s undeniable that My Demon contains numerous elements of a typical fantasy romance drama. Hence, the show deserves to be included in our list of comforting dramas.
