After clinching their music show first win with “Vroom Vroom” in September last year, TEMPEST is back with their 5th mini album ‘Tempest Voyage’ on March 11. Despite Hwarang’s absence in this comeback due to his recent private life controversy, the album has achieved promising records across music charts globally, including No.1 on the iTunes all genres and pop charts in Vietnam and Turkey K-pop chart, 4th place on the US K-pop chart, as well as the album daily chart on the Korean streaming platform Bugs, demonstrating TEMPEST’s rising popularity both in home and abroad as an aspiring 4th-gen boy group.
Concluding The “Storm” Era With Mature Sound
‘Tempest Voyage’ marks the end of TEMPEST’s “storm” series, which the group has worked on since their debut. This signifies the group’s new beginning of voyaging into the new world after overcoming hardships. TEMPEST has been showcasing their energetic and youthful image in their previous releases such as “Dragon,” “Dangerous,” and “Vroom Vroom.” The songs in this new album show a mature side of the group compared to the intense and punchy vibe of their previous releases.
The four tracks in ‘Tempest Voyage’ revolve around the theme of love and comfort, where the members express their love and support to their fandom, iE, by promising fans that they will always stay by their side and support them unconditionally and will be able to overcome darkness and adversity together as long as they are together.
“Lighthouse“
The title song, “Lighthouse,” is a deep-house dance track with a groovy melody and comforting lyrics. It is about the members’ determination to become their fans’ guiding light, give them hope in the dark, and lead them to wherever they want to go. The song also reminds fans that they can always lean on TEMPEST whenever they need it. The group’s leader, Lew, participated in writing the lyrics and the choreography. He creatively incorporates movements such as flashing lights that resemble a lighthouse, which matches the theme of the song.
“There“
“There” is an emotional mid-tempo track that sings the members’ regrets after breaking up while recalling their precious memories with their ex and that they promise to always be there for her and hope that she can come back to their side and be together with them forever. TEMPEST released a music video of the song where the members showcase their buried acting skills. They also promoted this song alongside “Lighthouse” at the comeback showcase and music shows.
“B.O.K“
“B.O.K” is a pop-rock track that shares a similar message as “Lighthouse,” in which the members sing that they will “be okay” and be able to overcome challenges and failures and grow even stronger as long as their fans stay with them. The song also confesses the members’ love to their fans, saying that they can find comfort and support in them. Hyuk, Taerae, and Lew took part in the lyric-making of this song, and the easy-listening melody and comforting lyrics make it a perfect sing-along song for concerts. The members uploaded a video of them singing the chorus of this song with their lightsticks on social media, and some fans commented that they hope to sing this song with TEMPEST together!
Slow Motion
This album ends with a lighthearted hip-hop-influenced track “Slow Motion.” This song describes the thrilling and magical feeling of falling in love. It also conveys the members’ hope to “move like slow motion” when they are with their crush to feel every moment of being together and that they are willing to wait for their crush and take their relationship slow. The freewheeling melody and lovely lyrics bring out the cutesy boyish charm of TEMPEST, different from the previous three tracks.
Meanwhile, TEMPEST is set to perform at KCON Hong Kong on March 31 and will be holding their first fan concert 2024 TEMPEST FAN CONCERT UNiEVERSITY on April 13 and 14 in Seoul, sharing the joy of their comeback and meeting iE from both Korea and overseas.
