Four months after their debut with ‘Ampersand One’ in November last year, AMPERS&ONE quickly returned with their second single album ‘One Hearted’ on March 26. Compared to their first album which has a youthful and light-hearted concept of taking their first step into the music industry, the new album brings out a powerful side of the group, showing the versatility of AMPERS&ONE as one of the most promising 5th-gen K-pop groups.
Racing Towards The Same Goal As One
The album’s title ‘One Hearted’ encompasses two meanings. First is that all seven members move towards the same goal together, which declares the group’s ambition to achieve greater heights in their career of clinching their music show first win.
The album consists of three tracks, including the title track “Broken Heart” and two B-side songs, “Crazy Stupid Fun” and “Someday”. All three songs share the theme of the members’ straight-forward confession to their crush whom they have been in one-sided love with, bringing out another meaning of the album title: being determined to win the heart of “the one”.
Broken Heart
“Broken Heart” is a hip-hop dance track that is about the uncontrollable feeling of the members’ heart pounding like crazy as if it is broken after falling in love at first sight, and only their crush can fix their broken heart. The song is packed with punchy bass lines which depict the heart beating quickly. Apart from the upbeat melody, the intense rap lines throughout the song go well with the dynamic and upbeat melody of the song, at the same time adding tension to the track. This gives listeners a feeling of car racing and makes the track exciting.
Different from the image of cheerful university students that AMPERS&ONE showed in the music video of their debut song “On And On,” this time the members are transformed into hockey players in the “Broken Heart” music video. The speediness of hockey matches the upbeat melody of the song and brings out the sporty charm of the boys.
The synchronized and powerful choreography is also another highlight of the music video. The choreography of “Broken Heart” is very intense and involves many chest movements to illustrate heart pounding. Kamden revealed that they made a lot of effort to practice the choreography to make sure all the movements and details were in sync.
Additionally, AMPERS&ONE made new attempts at the music video camera work and their style. Kyrell mentioned that it was his first time to get very close-up shots of this face, where he had to pay extra attention to his facial expression. Leader Jiho even bleached his hair for the first time in his life, saying that he is excited to show his new image to their fandom ANDEAR.
Crazy Stupid Fun
“Crazy Stupid Fun” is a cheerful and refreshing EDM track that radiates festive vibes. The song is about the members inviting their crush to dance freely to the music and have fun together all night long without caring about anything, and it is always a good time when she is by their side. The catchy synth bass gets you dancing along, making this song a nice party track that can uplift your spirits.
Someday
The last track “Someday” is an easy-listening pop dance song perfect for Spring. The cheerful piano, whistle, and brass sounds harmonize with each other, all together creating a cute atmosphere. The lyrics portray a youthful and pure love story of the members hoping that their crush would become their girlfriend someday, as they patiently wait for her to be with them and imagine the wonderful scenes of going on a date with her. The song’s freewheeling melody and lovely lyrics just make the hearts of ANDEAR flutter!
