Closing up the first chapter of his global domination, B.I finally released ‘Love or Loved Part.2’, wrapping up the year-long love story, narrating a fresh perspective on romance. “4 Letters”, and the title track, “Loved”, gave us a glimpse of how the sparks of a burning love slowly die.
Each track on the album offers a different listening experience thanks to each song’s distinct sound and genre. B.I has always been known for experimenting with the production of each of his releases and ‘Love or Loved Part.2’ is no different, even with it being in collaboration with other composers and producers. That being said, let us dive into the marvel of the remaining tracks on the album.
Alone (feat. TYTAN)
One thing about this global album project is its myriad of anticipated global collaborations. “Alone”, a collaboration with Thai actor and singer, TYTAN, explores the loneliness felt after a breakup, in a quite laid-back and soothing way, while still carrying the necessary feelings of pang and agony. The song’s lyrics offer the listener company in their state of loneliness.
S.O.S
These themes of loneliness quickly become a cry for help in “S.O.S” as B.I sink deeper into the emptiness of a gone love. These feelings are best described in the lyrics, “broken but in longing,” and in the track’s dreamy-sounding instrumental.
All Shook Up (feat. AGNEZ MO)
Wrapping up the album with a shift of genre is “All Shook Up,” featuring Indonesian singer-songwriter and actress, AGNEZ MO. The distorted-sounding percussion perfectly embodies the state of dizziness and drunkenness in love that the track portrays.
While the subject of breakup and heartbreak is pretty common in music, it’s not very often we hear it on a bright, almost happy tune, which makes ‘Love or Loved Part.2’ an interesting standout. Sometimes instead of wanting to cry from loneliness, you just need a warm hug in the form of bright music to cheer you up instead, which is a need B.I understands very well. Kudus to B.I on this one!
During the Stationhead Listening Party as part of the album’s promotions, B.I shared his plans to focus on stages and performances next year, perhaps hinting at a possible concert tour. Keep updated and follow him on Twitter and Instagram!
