CHUU is best known for being a member of LOONA before her removal in 2022. After suing and winning her lawsuit against her former company, BlockberryCreative, the singer then signed with a brand new company called ATRP (All The Reasons to Play). ATRP later announced that CHUU would debut solo with her first mini-album ‘HOWL.’ Let’s dive into her first mini-album that made us ‘HOWL’ for more!
Howl
CHUU expresses her determination to stay strong and unaffected with everything falling apart in “Howl.” She also talks about having resilience during hard times and having unconditional support for a loved one. CHUU stated in her showcase that the lyrics are hopeful and healing. The song starts off in an acapella style and builds up into a synth/electro-pop instrumental.
Underwater
“Underwater” is the pre-release from the mini-album. The song explores being in a mysterious, unknown place while feeling lost and isolated. “Underwater” also talks about disorientation, introspection, and the struggle to navigate one’s self and decipher these complex emotions in a strange environment. CHUU’s vocals are light and dream-like which compliments the guitar instrumental.
My Palace
Excitement and the want for a romantic, meaningful connection describe “My Palace.” The palace symbolizes an inner world where two people can be themselves fully and share their deep emotions. The instrumental for “My Palace” has a piano introduction which leads into a pop-rock vibe. There’s also some distortion to some of her vocals that gives the track some texture.
Aliens
“Aliens” describes two people with different mindsets coming together to find the beauty in their differences. The theme is to find the beauty and appreciation in a significant other despite the differences. “Aliens” has a synth-pop instrumental with a retro vibe.
Hitchhiker
Finding one’s unique place in the world and embracing individuality describes “Hitchhiker.” CHUU encourages the listeners and her fans, KKOTI, to step away from social expectations, explore the world, and cherish the experience. This track is also a synth-pop style with some vocal play which makes it a fun song to listen to.
