Last Wednesday, November 22nd, rock girl group Dreamcatcher released their 9th mini album ‘VillainS’. They also released an accompanying music video for their title track “OOTD”.
The term “OOTD” stands for “outfit of the day”, a common acronym you would see on Instagram or any other social media. In this pop-punk track, however, Dreamcatcher gives the term a new meaning: unconventional and borderline narcissistic confidence. They use the acronym “OOTD” to mean that they don’t follow the typical trends in fashion, and they most certainly look better than we ever will.
Aside from the title track, the album features four other tracks, starting with the “Intro: This My Fashion” which sets the confident and bombastic tone for the rest of the album. Following the title track is “Rising,” a rock/nu-metal track that stays true to Dreamcatcher’s usual style.
“Shatter” is an experimental dark hip-hop track that takes us on a rollercoaster from soft to grungy, then back to soft. The album wraps with the EDM-rave track “We Are Young”, bringing their listeners back to summer nostalgia.
To build anticipation for this comeback, a Twitter account @ymenehcra99 posted various codes and clues. The main objective of the account was to lure people to “take the crown”, and the latest person to take the crown, Shasha, does various impulsive actions to fulfill her goal. Her character is theorized to be an anti-fan of Dreamcatcher, which emphasizes the narcissistic traits in the title track.
