Following the successful conclusion of their SQUAD: R Asia tour in May, EVNNE dropped their third mini album ‘Ride or Die’ on June 17. In their previous two albums, the Septet positioned themselves as a “rascal” boy group bravely overcoming struggles and breaking stereotypes to achieve success by releasing powerful and dark discography. However, this time, EVNNE surprises fans by dropping a refreshing album that encapsulates the trust and loyalty they uphold with their fans, ENNVE, and shares their determination in pursuing their passion and goals. The album consists of six easy-listening summer beats that showcase the bright and pure side of EVNNE.
This complete change in concept is well-received by K-pop fans globally. The album got into the top 10 on the iTunes Album Chart in 8 countries, and the title track “Badder Love” also secured the top 10 on the iTunes K-pop Chart in 4 countries, proving EVNNE’s ability to pull off different music genres and concepts, as well as their surging popularity worldwide. Check out the tracks in “Ride or Die”, and follow EVNNE on a journey of love and dreams this summer!
“Badder Love“
“Badder Love” is a refreshing synth-pop that is a 180-degree pivot from their previous two dark-concept and rap-heavy title tracks “Trouble” and “Ugly”. The song is about the members’ unstoppable love for their crush and their determination to get to them, which they will not regret even if they make a mess out of the process. The melodic and emotional music showcases a softer side of EVNNE and highlights the unique vocal colors of each member. Also, the synth and rock base add a nostalgic touch to the song, which differs from EVNNE’s music style.
EVNNE also filmed a coming-of-age drama-like music video for the song on Jeju Island, where the boys have fun together and explore different parts of the island such as Hallasan, Seopjikoji, and Cheonjiyeon Falls. The breathtaking natural scenery of the island accentuates the members’ pure visuals and brings out the youthful vibe of the song. The music video also features shots of the song’s lively choreography, which the group’s youngest member Park Jihoo took part in making.
“I<3 U (I love U)“
“I <3 U” is a mid-tempo R&B track that encompasses the members’ straight-forward confession towards their crush, telling them that they hope to get closer to them, and the seat next to them is reserved for them. The easy-listening melody and the members’ soothing vocals make this a perfect love song to listen to on a summer night.
“XO“
“XO” is a dance-pop that is about the members expressing their interest in getting to know more about their crush, and urging them to confess their love by simply replying “X” or “O”. The group’s leader Keita took part in writing the lyrics of this song. The intense beat throughout the song resembles EVNNE’s previous music style and perfectly depicts the nervousness of waiting for their crush’s response.
“2X“
“2X” is a melodic track that portrays the magical flow of time when one falls in love – time passes twice as fast when the members are with their lover, while time passes twice as slow when they are waiting for them. They confess they want to always be with her as she fills their emptiness, making them feel happy and complete when they are by her side. Keita also participated in writing the lyrics of this song.
“Boom Bari”
“Boom Bari” is a cheerful mid-tempo dance pop where the members invite their lover to dance together in the galaxy that only belongs to the two of them, singing that they promise to be the star that shines on her and that they will always protect her and will never leave them alone. The lighthearted melody and cute lyrics radiate the lovely charm of EVNNE.
“Badder Love” (English Version)
In support of EVNNE’s upcoming North and Central American tour Ride With EVNNE in July and August, the album also features an English version of the title track “Badder Love”. The English lyrics deliver a similar message as the Korean version. As this is the first time EVNNE has released an English song, Yoo Seungeon said during the press showcase that they have put a lot of effort into practicing English, and Lee Jeonghyeon revealed that they will be performing the track on the tour!
