As the world has continued to fall in love with K-dramas, fans cannot help but obsess over couples that scream couple goals. From enemies to lovers to love at first sight, K-dramas continue to offer couples that make fans swoon repeatedly. Below is a list of couples that make hearts warm and fuzzy when watching them on the screen.
Yoon Se Ri and Ri Jeong Hyeok
The best place to start is with the couple that risked their lives numerous times for each other: Yoon Se Ri (played by Son Ye Jin) and Ri Jeong Hyeok (played by Hyun Bin) from Crash Landing on You. After meeting under difficult governmental circumstances, Se Ri and Jeong Hyeok start to fall in love while trying to get Se Ri back home. From camping out under the stars to catching a bullet for each other, the expectations for this couple are met and then surpassed. Episode after episode, this couple learns how to love each other by putting the other’s needs first. K-drama fans love happy endings and what screams more goals than Yoon Se Ri and Ri Jeong Hyeok going through the impossible to end up together? This couple screams even more goals when knowing that Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin are married and have a baby in real life.
Kim Bok Joo and Jung Joon Hyung
There is no doubt that Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo leaves fans with dreams of finding true love in college. Kim Bok Joo (played by Lee Sun Kyung) and Jung Joon Hyung (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) are elementary school friends that rekindle a friendship when they find themselves at the same university. With a hint of enemies to lovers, this couple has a rough start as Bok Joo tries to stay away from Joon Hyung because she does not like that he calls her “chubs”. Through the tough times of being collegiate athletes, facing family issues and growing up, Bok Joo and Joon Hyung realize just how much they need each other. And so, their relationship begins.
Do Bong Soon and Ahn Min Hyuk
This list would be incomplete if Do Bong Soon (played by Park Bo Young) and Ahn Min Hyuk (played by Park Hyun Sik) from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon were not mentioned. To begin, Min Hyuk falls in love at his first sight of Do Bong Soon, which develops more after he learns more about her and she joins his company. Bong Soon is first hired as Min Hyuk’s bodyguard but, due to his feelings for her, Min Hyuk ends up protecting her instead. Even though the chemistry is there from the beginning, it is not until Bong Soon gives up her childhood crush that her relationship with Min Hyuk truly begins. Apart from being a cute, golden retriever couple, Bong Soon and Min Hyuk must face sacrifice that proves to each other just how much their love means. If being willing to die for each other is not goals, then what is?
Tak Dong Kyung and Kim Sa Ram
While on the topic of sacrifice, it is worth mentioning Doom at Your Service with Tak Dong Kyung (played by Park Bo Young) and Kim Sa Ram (played by and Seo In Guk). This couple meets when Dong Kyung wishes that doom would come to earth after she finds out that she has three months to live. Myeol Mang (Doom), later renamed Sa Ram, shows up at her door ready to make her wish come true. After creating a contract that forces them to get to know each other, Dong Kyung, and Sa Ram fall in love with each other, but know that a sacrifice must be made as death is on the line. This couple puts their life on the line for each other, turning them into a better version of themselves because all they wanted was for the other to survive. Sa Ram’s love for Dong Kyung leads him to become a human and to have a happy ending with Dong Kyung. (Is this when we swoon yet?)
Shin Ha Ri and Kang Tae Moo
Moving on to the beloved CEO and worker couple from Business Proposal, Shin Ha Ri (played by Kim Se Young) and Kang Tae Moo (played by Ahn Hyo Seop). Meeting during a fake arranged date, Kang Tae Moo decides that he wants to marry Shin Ha Ri to get his grandfather off his back about having a wife and kids. Even though Ha Ri is doing everything in her power to repel Kang Tae Moo, these actions end up making him truly fall in love with her. Through the episodes, the couple faces the stigma against relationships across socioeconomic classes that the rest of the world is pushing to them. These obstacles, however, only make them stronger as they realize the only opinions that matter is their own. Additionally, Ha Ri helps Tae Moo when it comes to dealing with the pain from the death of his parents and his trauma with rainy days. This couple endured many challenges to become the happy couple they deserve to be. #goals.
Jin Young Seo and Cha Sung Hoon
It would be a crime to not mention the second lead couple from Business Proposal as their chemistry and actions make them nothing less than couple goals. This couple is none other than Jin Young Seo (played by Seol In Ah) and Cha Sung Hoon (played by Kim Min Gue). Young Seo and Sung Hoon fall in love at first sight, but, due to the complicated relationship their best friends have, they keep themselves from admitting how they feel. However, this avoidance of feelings does not last long as the consequences of being acquaintances and next-door neighbors catches up to them. Amidst all the chaos and misunderstandings that Young Seo and Sung Hoon face, they continue growing with each other and scream couple goals through the rest of the K-drama (while even offering us one of the most memorable scenes in the drama).
Na Hee Do and Baek Yi Jin
Although Twenty-Five Twenty-One does not have a happy ending, it is worth mentioning its lead couple: Na Hee Do (played by Kim Tae Ri) and Baek Yi Jin (played by Nam Joo Hyuk). This couple takes viewers through a love story filled with ups and downs of reality. Hee Do and Yi Jin start off as friends who want to support each other through tough times of family trouble, IMF crisis and the Asian Games. This friendship turns into a tragic love story when this couple realizes they love each other too much to put the other through a painful situation. However, before fans’ hearts break, they were able to see them enjoy their 20’s together and in love.
This is just a short list of the many couples K-dramas offer. If you could add another couple from K-dramas that screams couple goals, who would you add? Let us know on Instagram and Twitter!
