Q & A
Q: What do you find the most difficult aspect as an artist? ( It can be anything from the writing to the creative process.) How do you overcome those difficult aspects?
A: I don’t find the creative process particularly difficult because it naturally involves some pain. (I’m a positive person by nature.) I have faith that at the end of that pain, a good result will be followed by a sense of happiness. However, my biggest concern is a “desire for recognition.” I believe that a work of art holds value when it is known and appreciated by many people, so I have a strong desire for my songs to be recognized by as many people worldwide as possible. I often imagine people getting to know my music, loving it, and acknowledging me as an artist.
Of course, that’s not something I can achieve through my will alone. And because it’s something “no one can truly predict,” it’s not easy to overcome the anxiety that comes with that uncertainty while continuing to produce work. To overcome this anxiety, I stick to a routine of exercising for more than an hour each day, getting 7 hours of sleep, and meeting new people by visiting a popular place at least once a week. I believe that keeping my daily life stable is the greatest strength I have in overcoming anxiety. In any case, for the reasons I mentioned above, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect with people like you through the release of “Satellite.” I’m very thankful for this!
Q: The song reflects “yearning for a change as we recall better times” and “fear and hesitation in the face of change.” What helps you to ground yourself when these feelings creep up on you? Or what do you do to show yourself that your yearning for change is more powerful than your fear of change?
A: As I mentioned above, the routines I strictly follow in my daily life seem to be a great source of strength. Another thing that helps is enjoying my soul food—fried chicken and sundae soup—without any worries, filling myself up and feeling satisfied. Humans are simpler than we think, and I’ve found that eating delicious food, moving your body, resting well, and going out to meet new people to check in on your social life can naturally build up quite a bit of positive energy. As these “small successes” in maintaining my daily routine accumulate, I’ve naturally developed the belief that I can successfully handle the uncertainty that lies beyond any changes.
