Blackpink member Rosé gave fans the ultimate holiday gift—her debut album, ‘Rosie.’ Officially announced on Oct. 1 via Rose’s Instagram, she briefly explained that ‘Rosie’ is the name her friends and family call her, and she hopes listeners feel much closer to her once they hear all 12 songs.
“number one girl”
This beautiful piano ballad is the perfect introduction that captures the album’s essence, vulnerability and raw honesty. Through the lyrics, Rosé opens up about her desire to be someone’s number one and her constant need for validation. In the music video, the singer is having a monologue through the streets of Seoul, emphasizing her feelings towards a loved one.
“3am”
An acoustic guitar at the start sets off this vulnerable ballad, where Rosé declares loving someone despite everyone’s disapproval and obvious red flags. Lyrically, she mentions the desire to be in love and wanting to spend every second with this person, even if it comes with future consequences. Extremely relatable!
“two years”
Another beautiful instrumental ballad that depicts Rosé’s unique vocal abilities. Rosé’s vocals are accompanied by her clear message—a never-ending love that carries on in one’s mind.
“toxic till the end”
Trustfully, the newest break-up anthem for everyone! Recently, Rosé mentioned the initial song title was “the ex” as she confesses it is inspired by a past relationship. The music video walks viewers through different scenarios where toxicity can exist while being in love, to the point where it is better to walk away.
“drinks or coffee”
An upbeat and fun track in the middle of mainly ballads. The Blackpink global sensation expresses the first stages of a relationship when things are not complicated and almost fun to discover. The spontaneity of making plans with a new lover.
“APT.”
The collaboration we did not know we needed until it was released! The only feature in ‘Rosie’ is that Bruno Mars joins Rosé on this fun track. Inspired by the famous Korean party game, both of them give it an amazing twist that makes us want to sing it out loud.
“gameboy”
A lyrical continuation of “two years,” where Rosé tells how difficult a post-breakup situation can be when this person is still playing games. In a recent interview, the pop star mentioned the lingering feeling that made her finally put it in writing to move on from this person.
“stay a little longer”
A melancholic track, where Rosé’s vocal range is evidently remarked. Full of gut-wrenching and vulnerable lyrics, she is in denial about the end of a relationship.
“not the same”
Through guitar notes and Rose’s raw vocals, the track remarks the awful feeling of realizing the past is no longer here and the relationship is not the same anymore. A rude awakening to probably call it quits before it becomes more painful.
“call it the end”
Starting with soft piano sounds, the emotional song expresses the uncertain status of a relationship. Once again, Rosé presents herself in a vulnerable state where she needs to make a choice—stay or move on.
“too bad for us”
Through this acoustic guitar ballad, listeners get to hear Rosé’s raw emotions about uncertainty in a relationship. How this love might have been doomed from the start, but it is becoming clear that the end is inevitable.
“dance all night”
A positive ending to this album. Through this album, Rosé has walked us through many heartbreaks and raw feelings, but in this song, she assures fans she is on the other side of the story.
