Following the major success of their debut album, the completion of their 2022 Where You At tour, and their history, being nominated as the first ever Filipino and Southeast Asian act for Billboard Music Awards’ Top Social Artist Category, SB19 came back with their 2nd extended play titled ‘PAGTATAG’ on June 9th.
The EP consists of six tracks, totaling to 26 minutes of fierce rapping, elaborate lyrical wordplay, and a perfect mix of bass-heavy tracks and summery pop ballads.
The tracklist consists of songs titled:
- “GENTO”
- “I WANT YOU”
- “CRIMZONE”
- “ILAW”
- “LIHAM”
- “FREEDOM”
‘PAGTATAG’ can be translated from Tagalog as “establishing” or “founding.” SB19 has set the standard of who they are as a group since their debut. SB19 has sung about being rooted in a “work hard, play hard” mentality, and lyrics nodding towards this concept are peppered throughout the EP, reassuring their fans, A’TIN, that they are striving for success harder than ever before.
Lyrics from the EP’s third track “CRIMZONE” echo this charisma through the line, “Sige, don’t care if you believe me, ‘di ako magsisisi, buong ibibigay puso’t kaluluwa kong ito, heto lang ang kaya ko,” meaning, “Alright, don’t care if you believe me, I won’t regret it, I will give it my whole heart and soul, this is all I can do.”
In addition to the EP, SB19 released a music video for the second track titled “I WANT YOU.” The music video displays sultry black-and-white shots of each member overlaid atop scenes of blooming roses, rushing water, and landscapes backlit with muted colors. Towards the end of the four-minute video, a theme of darkness and light is established through a series of clips showcasing each member submerged, swimming into deep blue water, with angry red lightning shooting off into the distance.
SB19 is active under Sony Music Philippines and is comprised of five members: Justin, Josh, Ken, Pablo, and Stell. Each member underwent intense training for four years under ShowBT beginning in the year 2016, before debuting as Sound Break 19, or SB19. This past December, SB19 played alongside industry pros from 88rising at the label’s first-ever Head In The Clouds Festival in Manila. Other artists on the roster included Joji, Jackson Wang, Jessi, Warren Hue, and many others.
