Brandon Arreaga is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. He is best known for being a member of the American-Canadian boy group, PRETTYMUCH, since 2016. PRETTYMUCH started off their music career by posting song covers on YouTube before releasing their debut single, “Would You Mind.” Throughout his time in the group, Brandon would help out with the songwriting and production for PRETTYMUCH. His contributions include songs such as “Smackables,” “Lonely,” “I Don’t Wanna Leave,” “Stars,” and “Trust.”
2020: SHE’S THE ONE – MONSTA X
Fast forward to 2020, Brandon would help write the lyrics for his first K-pop song. “SHE’S THE ONE” became a hit song for Starship Entertainment’s MONSTA X. The lyrics describe having a deep admiration for someone and making grand romantic gestures to show their love.
2023: Perfume – NCT DOJAEJUNG
Soon after his first attempt at K-Pop songwriting, Brandon would write the debut single of NCT’s newest subunit, DOJAEJUNG. “Perfume” expresses the desire to leave a lasting impression on someone, with lyrics portraying the feeling of wanting to be remembered and thought of even when they’re not around.
2023: Private Party, Cinderella – EXO
Continuing on the SM Entertainment train, he helped compose two songs for EXO’s latest project, ‘EXIST.’ “Private Party” is the first song he provided lyrical input for. The lyrics show a strong attraction and connection between EXO and the person receiving their affection.
“Cinderella” is the second song Brandon provided lyrical input for. The lyrics portray wanting to defy time and leave behind the dreamlike state of a relationship. They want to break the rules that keep them stuck, while also wanting their love interest, labeled as Cinderella, to stay and not disappear at midnight like in the fairytale.
2023: Blue Wave – NCT DREAM
After working with EXO, Brandon would work with NCT again, but with a different sub-unit, NCT Dream, for their album ‘ISTJ.’ “Blue Wave” captures the feeling of being in love and projects the image of a vibrant, blue ocean. The lyrics focus on feelings of hesitation, comparing their emotions to bubbles and a gentle sailing motion. Aside from the lyrics, he also helped with the production and arrangement of “Blue Wave.”
2023: The BAT – NCT U
Brandon’s latest work in the K-Pop scene was with NCT for their fourth album ‘Golden Age.’ “The Bat” describes an unstoppable and powerful force. The lyrics have elements of freedom, darkness, and a heroic persona inspired by Batman. The song also highlights the group’s ability to conquer any obstacles thrown at them.
