“Lit”, a Japanese single, was released by the six-member Korean girl group STAYC on December 6th, 2023. “Lit” highlights the Y2K style of STAYC’s music and concept as a bright bubblegum pop track. It is STAYC’s third Japanese single and was released alongside the Japanese version of their latest title track “Bubble” from their August album ‘Teenfresh‘.
The song is a self-empowering hype song for STAYC, who envision a bright future for themselves and proclaim that “[their] life is lit”. The word “lit”, when used in that context, is a slang term akin to saying something is awesome or amazing. STAYC is a group well known for its positive messages and upbeat music style.
The music video for “Lit”, posted on the STAYC Japan Official Youtube channel, especially pays homage to the trends of the early 2000s, complete with a Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) pad and popping fashion reminiscent of that colorful era. This single is accompanied by a new adorable TikTok challenge for both fans and other idols alike to try. The TikTok challenge has already been showcased by group members, as well as other celebrities such as rapper Lee Youngji and IVE’s Liz, with surely more to come, to then delight of their fans Swiths.
