The K-pop industry has come a long way. With endless forms of expression, groups have created unique concepts in clothing, lyricism, and, most importantly, their music videos. As some of these songs turn ten this year, we want to rewind a decade and look at some of the best music videos released in 2015. Buckle up because we have some nostalgia ahead!
“Run” – BTS
The second track of BTS’ ‘The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt.2’ is one of the most essential music videos and songs in their discography. “Run” is especially crucial to the group’s lore for many BTS fans. As they carefully crafted storylines throughout three album series, their music video told stories that their lyrics couldn’t. The music video for “Run” shows a wide range of emotions—fighting, fun, tears, and anxiety- encapsulating BTS’s versatility. Fans reminisce about this era, praising it as their favorite BTS era, and we couldn’t agree more.
“Catch Me If You Can” – girls’ generation
Recorded in both Japanese and Korean, “Catch Me If You Can” reminds us that the “G” in Girls’ Generation stands for Girlboss. Set in a construction zone, “Catch Me If You Can” sets the stage for the group’s versatility. Not only are they icons in the K-pop industry, but they’re also known for their fun music videos, catchy songs, and unique concepts. They kept this video simple as it has one set and outfit change, but their aura makes up for all the theatrics. Girls’ Generation is a staple for third-gen and their art remains timeless.
“Mansae” – SEVENTEEN
If you thought we’d forget this classic hit, you’re sadly mistaken. Known for their lively and energetic vibe, SEVENTEEN continuously showcases concepts that surpass expectations and imagination. SEVENTEEN’s second EP, ‘BOYS BE,’ released in 2015 and featured one of their most popular songs to date, “Mansae.” The song, which translates to “hooray,” captures that feeling perfectly with its bright colors, enthusiastic choreography, and upbeat melody, making the music video a masterpiece that embodies the essence of 2015.
“If you do” – GOT7
Although 2015 was the perfect year for bright and fun themes, GOT7 took a darker route with the angsty break-up theme, “If You Do.”This track is about a man trapped in a toxic and manipulative relationship with his girlfriend. Despite her toxic behaviors, he wishes to go back to the way it was at the beginning. The music video is exactly what you’d imagine an emotional music video to be: angry, desperate, and lonely. With edgy outfits, strong lyrics, and a detailed storyline, GOT7 delivers this song perfectly and draws you into the agony.
“Like Ooh-Ahh” – Twice
Lastly, we cannot forget TWICE! Their “Like Ooh-Aah,” is one of the most memorable debut songs ever. Not only is the song entirely on brand for TWICE, but the music video sets the tone for the group, letting everyone know that they’re K-pop’s new it-girls. The opening lyrics follow their sugary sweet sound, but things take a weird turn with the unexpected: a zombie apocalypse. This video also includes their trendy (and timeless) dance break during the bridge led by Momo. You know something is iconic when it still trends after ten years! With this introduction to the nine member group, TWICE skyrocketed to the top of people’s stan list and have been there ever since.
Many iconic songs and music videos emerged in 2015—we can’t believe it’s already been ten years!
