Umi, a half-black half-Japanese artist known for her dreamy indie R&B melodies born in Seattle and residing in Los Angeles, effortlessly chose the perfect person to collaborate with who could fit her music style. Releasing “wherever you are” ft. BTS’ very own V made so many ARMYs feel bittersweet. As we already know from many of his solo music; V shares the same soft and comforting tones as Umi.
Umi uses her music and lyrics to express self-discovery, and advocates for social justice, wellness, and fashion. Her music journey started as early as 5 as she tried to understand the world she lived in. Now as an adult, she sings in both Japanese and English using her lyrics and melodies’ to make the listener feel understood and connected.

This track has a soft relaxing tone from start to finish. Umi initially wrote this track for her grandmother back in Japan, expressing how she misses her. V’s added vocals transform the song into another light, as he dedicates the track to loved ones everywhere. Regardless of the distance, language, or time zone, people can always feel love.
With the departure of V and his fellow BTS members into the military, this track can resonate with ARMYs all over. The track serves as a comforting track to express your care, love, and appreciation for those you miss ending 2023 on a bittersweet note.
