Our favorites, Maxi and Riftan, are back in Under The Oak Tree Season 3. Under The Oak Tree follows Maximillian, a young lady who fights her insecurities with her speech impediment while managing her relationship with her husband, Riftan, a noble knight who had been at war for three years. The last time we’d seen them, the couple was preparing their castle for visitors, Princess Agnes Reuben of Drachium Palace. Princess Agnes presents a small bump in the road for Maximillian and Riftan’s marriage as Princess Agnes was the one expected to marry Riftan after the completion of her and Riftan’s dragon campaign. Uh Oh…

We begin the season with a nervous Maxi preparing to greet her guests. Walking hand in hand with Riftan, Princess Agnes and Maxi formally exchange greetings after Riftan coldly hands over Anges to his wife. Don’t be so cold, Riftan! It’s already bad enough that Maxi and Riftan haven’t been able to spend time together since preparations for the castle began. Maxi’s insecurities grow as she examines the woman who almost held her spot. Her long golden blonde hair, dressed in trousers harmonizing with Riftan’s outfit, settled into Maxi’s mind uneasily. The question of their chemistry has arisen. After bathing, Agnes catches up with Maxi and tours around the castle, which seems more like Agnes showing Maxi around her castle. The two ladies hold a brief conversation about Riftan, whom Agnes refers to by the nickname “Mago.” This exchange ends with Maxi’s insecurities growing to the point of the discussion ending early.

The welcome banquet held for Anges and her knights begins with trouble. Immediately, Agnes pushed for a tour of Anatol, specifically from Riftan. Poor Maxi…her worries keep growing and growing. After a stone-cold response from Riftan, Agnes shifts her request to Maxi, which results in an even worse response from Riftan as he grows upset and eventually offers to be her personal. Why is he upset? What could’ve gone wrong with Maxi and Agnes being alone? This sudden decision prompts a small argument between the couple as Riftan sees Maxi incapable of showing Agnes around Anatol because she is new to Anatol herself. Maxi wins this argument, of course, proving that she knows her way around the village and will show Agnes around. For the first time in weeks, Riftan and Maxi get alone together and share some steamy moments before Rfitan abruptly leaves. That’s not like him at all.

Remember when Maxi told Riftan that she knew her way around Anatol? Well, she lied. Maxi nervously prepares to show Agnes around the village while Agnes trains with Uslin. As the ladies tour the village, Agnes’ tone with her comments about the development of Anatol rubs Maxi the wrong way, suggesting that she’s not too keen about Anatol becoming an important trade center. Hmm…that’s weird. Agnes drags Maxi to a tavern where they learn about the ornamental sashes worn during the spring festival. Agnes insists that they purchase sashes as it will be their first spring festival in Anatol for both of them. Agnes gifts Maxi a red sash, matching her hair, leaving Maxi confused about the magnitude of her kindness towards her.
